You can see her
Through the narrow piece of your glass

New Year Tidbits!

 In Spain, people eat 12 grapes as the clock strikes midnight (one each time the clock chimes) on New Year's Eve.
 Late on the evening of December 31, people of Japan would eat a bowl of buckwheat noodles called "Toshikoshisoba" ("year-crossing noodles") and listen for the sound of the Buddhist temple bells.
 In Colombia, Cuba and Puerto Rico, families stuff a life-size male doll with things that have bad memories or sadness associated with them. They dress it up in old clothes from each family member and at the stroke of midnight, this 'Mr. Old Year' is set on fire.
 In Greece, children leave their shoes by the fireside on New Year's Day (also the Festival of Saint Basil in Greece) hoping that Saint Basil, who was famous for his kindness, will come and fill their shoes with gifts.
 The people in China believe that there are evil spirits that roam the earth. So on New Year, they burn crackers to scare the evil spirits.

The Buzz About Christmas

 Child singer Jimmy Boyd was 12 years and 11 months old when he sang the Christmas favorite, "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus." The song hit the top of the pop charts.
 Candy canes began as straight white sticks of sugar candy used to decorate the Christmas trees. A choirmaster at Cologne Cathedral decided to have the ends bent to depict a shepherd's crook and he would pass them out to the children to keep them quiet during the services. It wasn't until about the 20th century that candy canes acquired their red stripes.
 Christmas trees are edible. Many parts of pines, spruces, and firs can be eaten. The needles are a good source of vitamin C. Pine nuts, or pine cones, are also a good source of nutrition.
 In Medieval England, Nicholas was just another saint - he had not yet been referred to as Santa Claus and he had nothing to do with Christmas.

Young people were using the night time to commit pranks in the neighbourhoods which escalated into vandalism and in some cases, violence. In response, the school boards, parent and town councils came up with a safe activity for the children. The businesses and locals cooperated in giving the children candies to keep them out of mischief.

Christianity took the majority of its holidays from Pagan traditions and renamed them, one being the "All Saints Day." The Celts started their new day at the sunset of the previous night and this became known as the evening of All Hallows (hallowed is a synonym for saint). From there it went to All Hallow's Eve, and then on to Halloween.
